On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

The Expedition sets out early and notices a new trading post has been erected near present Yankton, South Dakota. When hard headwinds force them to shore, the men hunt. They camp on a large sandbar to avoid the mosquitoes.

a fair morning.    we Set out eairly and procd. on    passed the mouth of River Jaque.    Saw gangs of Elk    got Some good pipe clay
