On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

The Expedition meets traders who inform them that the Sioux have a large war party several miles down the river. They stop at an Arikara village east of present McLaughlin, South Dakota and council with them and visiting Cheyenne.

From the journals...

he had a robe and a fleece of fat Buffalow meat brought and gave me with the meadel back and informed me that he knew that the white people were all medecine and that he was afraid of the midal or any thing that white people gave to them.
