On this day in Lewis & Clark history...
Lewis unearths several caches at Upper Portage Camp and finds his herbarium collection ruined. At Three Forks, Clark's group takes the horses up the Gallatin River and Ordway's group takes the canoes down the Missouri.

Sunday 13th July 1806.
Capt. Clark & party leaves us hear to cross over to the River Roshjone. So we parted
I and 9 more proceeded on down the river with the canoes verry well.

I observe Several leading roads which appear to pass to a gap of the mountain in a E. N E. direction about 18 or 20 miles distant. The indian woman who has been of great Service to me as a pilot through this Country recommends a gap in the mountain more South which I shall cross.—
