On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

Field, Bratton, and Gibson are assigned to make salt. Willard and Wiser will help them move the kettles and gear to the beach several miles from Fort Clatsop. The chimneys are finished and others work to erect pickets and gates.

We were all employed in building Chimneys in our huts, which we compleated, & found our huts comfortable & without smoak.
