On this day in Lewis & Clark history...
At Fort Clatsop southwest of present Astoria, Oregon, spirits revive when the morning is fair. By afternoon, the rain and hail returns. Cedar planks from an abandoned Indian village are brought to the fort to use as roofing.

This was a fine clear cool morning, and we expected to have some fair pleasant weather, but at noon it became cloudy again and began to rain.
