On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

The Expedition continues north down the Salmon River and then turns northeast up Tower Creek to avoid a canyon. The horses must often walk through large, unstable scree. They camp near the place the trail leaves the creek.

From the journals...

passed the end of a mountain near the River where the Stone lay one on an other & holes So that the horses could Scarsely git along without breaking their legs.
