On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

The day begins with snow and ice on the oars. High winds force the Expedition to remain at their camp near present Elkhorn Point, Montana. They finally leave at 5:30pm making only 4½ miles up the Missouri River.

From the journals...

we Camped at a handsom bottom on the N. S. which is a very large bottom part c. w. timber & part prarie    high plains back from the River. Came only abt. 5 miles to day.
