On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

Lewis and Clark take the keelboat down the Ohio River. Near this date, they pass Henderson and Diamond Islands and perhaps spend the night at Mt Vernon.

From the journals...

Red Bank island, channel right side, Half a mile below the head of this island, keep pretty close to it, to avoid a sand-bar putting out from the right shore, and which extends ten miles down; at the head of the island is also a sand-bar.
