On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

Lewis and Clark are at the Great Falls of the Ohio at Louisville, Kentucky. During this period, they are planning and preparing the Expedition with hopes to start up the Missouri River before winter.

From the journals...

In leveling the descent of the rapids, it has been found to be twenty-two feet and a half, in two miles, the distance from Bear-grass to the foot of the falls.
