Lewis and Clark are at the Great Falls of the Ohio at Louisville, Kentucky. During this period, Lewis meets the men that Clark has recruited for the Expedition.

The river here is about one and a quarter mile broad, and commands a most charming view both above and below for a great distance, and the eye is carried over an extent of level country, terminated by the hills of silver-creek which are five miles distant
