On this day in Lewis & Clark history...

Lewis rests the crew at Cincinnati, Ohio. He receives letters from Clark with news of his progress finding suitable men for the Expedition. In a letter written yesterday, Lewis mentions two good men that he has found.

From the journals...

Dear Clark,
I here had the pleasure of recieving yours of the 21st of August & the 11th of Septr. I am much pleased with the measures you have taken relative to the engaging the men you mention....
I have two young men with me whom I have taken on trial and have not yet engaged them, but conditionally only, tho' I think they will answer tolerably well...1
